108 achievers of HSLC 2023 and 2024 batch were awarded with citations and cash awards under the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship (CMMSF) at a programme held today at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.

In his address, Advisor, School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome congratulated all the students as well as their parents for their dedication towards their academic success. While applauding the achievers, he said that their success is a result of their hard work and determination, and expressed hope that they will bring more laurels to the State in future. Yhome informed that this year also marks the celebrations of the NBSE’s 50th year and called upon the departments involved to reorient the education system so as to equip students to face the new world with confidence and to help them realize their full potential.

Yhome mentioned that the status of education in Nagaland has come a long way and as we step foot in the global world young minds need to be moulded in the right way. He also cited that our achievements today here are mostly from urban areas, and the modernity that we enjoy today is a dream for many from the rural areas. There is a lot of challenge to access to basic infrastructure or better education in the rural areas and therefore remind ourselves of the many students who fail to get these privileges and not forgetting that Nagaland is also the highest dropout in the country.

Chairperson NBSE, Asano Sekhose in her introductory address reminded the achievers that they are not alone in the race of pursuing excellence, therefore she urged the achievers to stay focused, committed to their studies and continue to excel. While lauding the achievements of these meritorious students she also acknowledged the role of the institutions and the teachers who moulded and guided these achievers to what they are today and called upon all heads of institutions and teachers to continue guiding the students.

She also highlighted the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship underlining the role that the State Government has been providing to boost education in the state. She mentioned that the fellowship is granted to top 50 students in the top rank in order of merit of the HSLC Examination conducted by NBSE and the selection is based on the rank/marks secured in the HSLC Examination in order of merit.

The selected 50 students must belong to an Indigenous Scheduled Tribe of Nagaland, a citation certificate along with cash award shall be given to beneficiaries. The grant of CMMSF shall be awarded for 5 years, and to continue to avail the fellowship, the students should continue to score not less than 80% marks in grades classes succeeding the examination semester annual promotion every year. Non-fulfillment of the criteria will lead to discontinuation of grant of CMMSF, she added.
