The 10BedICU organisation was founded in June 2021 when the country was brought to her knees by the second wave of Covid-19. Since then, the founders and partners have come together to address the desperate need for improving the “critical care infrastructure of rural government hospitals”.
Tomorrow, the project will be launched in 12 district hospitals in Dimapur, Kohima, Kiphire, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.
While the 10 bedded ICU at Dimapur’s District Hospital will be donated by HDFC Bank CSR, the donor of the ICUs for the remaining 11 district hospitals is Vinod Khosla.
With the help of the Tele ICU tooling, “specialists in Urban Command Centres will be able to monitor the patients remotely and advise on the right treatment.”

Best New Year gift to our people
Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary Health and Family Welfare, in a video message declared: “the launching of 10BedICU is going to be the best New Year gift to our people.”
He also said that beginning from the month of January, sick patients from the remote districts will no longer need to travel to Kohima to seek medical attention.
Sema assured that the government will ensure that each 10 bed ICUs will have adequate manpower and that “nurses and the doctors will be trained”.
Speaking about the Tele-ICU, the Commissioner & Secretary of H&FW said the doctors in Kohima will be able to advise or guide the ICUs in the other districts if the need arises.
Thanking the donors, the organisation and the people involved in the project, Sema said because of them Nagaland will be better prepared should there be a third wave in the future.
