The opening ceremony of the 10th Edition of North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) was held on November 3 in Kohima, Nagaland. Youths from the North Eastern Region of the country and a few from neighbouring countries attended the event.
The program began with a warm welcome by the Secretary-General, NEIMUN 2023 Kethosinuo Tepa, followed by Founding Director, NEIMUN Limabenla Jamir who stated that NEIMUN is not just a conference but it is a community to forge relationships, and work towards building bridges. She further highlighted the establishment of a newer vision with the startup of the NEIMUN Foundation, while also revisiting the inception of NEIMUN ten years ago.
Kevin Felix Chan, Co-founder of Best Delegate, USA took the stage to share his journey from a young delegate to chairing a session at the United Nations. He emphasized on the importance of MUNS and the positive impact it has on young people, shaping them to become responsible citizens. Mayukh Dutta, USG of Programs & Speakers shed light on the voice of the youths and expressed his hopes and vision for a future that is inclusive of ideas of the young to make a change in the world.

Rupin Sharma, DGP Nagaland, graced the ceremony as the keynote speaker. Sharma spoke on the topic “Preventing and Countering Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking: Securing our tomorrow through-Youth Engagement”. Highlighting the importance of humanity as well as clinging to one’s culture and traditions, Sharma encouraged the youths to come forward and contribute on the drug sensitization drive in the State. Further, he emphasized on creating a better environment for the youths and their future.
NEIMUN Foundation
The NEIMUN annual conference will converge under the NEIMUN Foundation from 2023. NEIMUN Foundation is a youth-focused leadership development organisation based in North East India. The foundation’s priorities are centered around enabling young people to play a role in the actualization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a particular emphasis on UNSCR 2250 Youth, Peace, and Security. It will be focusing on four primary verticals, leadership, mentoring and networking, community engagement, and research and advocacy.
