12 BJP functionaries in Mokokchung join Congress Party

Mokokchung: Supongmeren Jamir welcomes new members, assures commitment to work together

In a significant political development, 12 BJP functionaries from Mokokchung district, led by former Vice President L. Yanger Lemtur, resigned and joined the Congress Party today. The event took place at the District Congress Committee (DCC) Office in the presence of MP Lok Sabha and President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S. Supongmeren Jamir, and Mokokchung DCC officials.

In a statement, the former BJP members declared, “We, the following former members of the BJP functionaries under Mokokchung district, have resolved to resign from both active and primary membership. We have unanimously resolved to join the Indian National Congress on 2nd August 2024, under the dynamic leadership of Shri. Watimongba Aier, President DCC.”

S. Supongmeren Jamir, welcomed the new members, stating, “We are a family now.” He highlighted the dedication and perseverance of the new joiners, remarking, “For 21 years, without having anything, with every effort, without leaving the party, and with much patience and hard work, we got this opportunity. God has led us this far.”

Jamir emphasized the responsibility that comes with this shift, noting, “The Congress party is in such a situation where we give out from our pockets, donating and contributing with every means to serve the party and our people.” He assured his commitment to working together, celebrating the addition of 12 BJP members to the Congress Party as a significant milestone.

The event included a welcome address by Watimongba Aier, President of DCC, and the felicitation of the senior BJP officials who joined the Congress. Brief speeches were delivered by Moa Imchen, General Secretary NPCC (Mkg I/c), L. Yanger Lemtur, former VP of BJP Mokokchung District, and Arenla, former VP (Women Wing) of BJP Mokokchung District.

Nukshi I. Ozukum, Vice President of DCC, chaired the program, while Temsu, President of the District Youth Congress (DYC), pronounced the invocation.
