13 killed as bus and dumper collide in MP’s Guna; President, PM offer condolence

New Delhi: CM orders suspension of District Regional Transport Officer and Chief Municipal Officer for negligence

13 people have been killed in Guna in Madhya Pradesh as a bus burst into flames after colliding head on with a dumper truck at around 8:30 pm on 27th December 2023. The bus was carrying over 30 passengers and was heading to Aron in MP. Around 18 people were reportedly injured in the incident.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday expressed sadness over the incident and informed that a four-member committee had been constituted to investigate the case in Guna.

“I have instructed the Chief Secretary to take action against all the officers of the concerned department related to this matter,” he said, adding that the Transport Department has been asked to take strict action against the culprits. All collectors and SPs have also been instructed to be vigilant on vehicles running without permits and to take action against the culprits, Dr Yadav said. He has also ordered the suspension of the District Regional Transport Officer (RTO) and Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) for negligence.

The Chief Minister had earlier today visited the injured at District Hospital, Guna to inquire about their health and also get information.

Dr Mohan Yadav had also announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.

Reacting to the news, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences to the families of those who had died in Guna and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured. “The news of death of many people in a road accident in Guna, Madhya Pradesh is sad. I express my deep condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” President Murmu stated in a post on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too said that the incident was heartbreaking and assured that the Madhya Pradesh Government and the local administration is working to provide every possible help to the victims.

“The road accident that happened in Guna, Madhya Pradesh is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their family members. Along with this, I wish speedy recovery to all the people injured in this accident. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in every possible help to the victims,” PM Modi said in a message on X.
