The 13th National Voters Day was observed across the different districts of Nagaland today.
The theme of the day was ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’.
Here are the programmes held in different areas as reported by DIPR.
TSEMINYU
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Tseminyu, Dr Zasekuolie Chusi, IAS along with Council of Rengma Baptist Church, Zunpha, Tseminyu observed the National Voters’ Day at CRBC, Zunpha ground.
The DC stated that National Voters Day is a very important day for everyone. He said the Election Commission of India in 2010 marked 25 January as the National Voters’ Day to promote free and fair elections.
Dr Chusi added the day is to encourage all voters and also the youngsters to participate in the election process.
The winners of the essay competition were felicitated during the programme. Sicy Seb of Christian School Tseminyu was the winner while Sotilo Tep of Government Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu and Kilongla Yimchunger of Baptist Higher Secondary School Tseminyu came in second and third respectively.
Best BLO was awarded to David Tep of polling station 15th Tseminyu Old Town and Kedalo Seb of polling stations 11 Gukhanyu.
Campus Ambassador was awarded to Runohile Keppen. The youngest voter – Sokenye Tep, and the oldest voter – Gwachule Kempr along with Ativu Jemu and PWD category Haile Kath were also felicitated during the function.
A short speech was delivered by Runohile Keppen, campus ambassador while the welcome address was given by Dr Rushvulo Seb, principal of Mt Terogvu Theological College, Zunpha.
The programme was chaired by EAC HQ/ARO Tseminyu Ruokuosetuo Tetso, NCS, while the vote of thanks was delivered by ADC & RO Tseminyu Longasen Lotha.
PHEK
Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Phek, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, graced the occasion of the celebration at DC’s conference hall, Phek.
The Deputy Commissioner urged upon the newly enrolled voters to exercise their adult franchise by casting their votes in favour of any candidate of his/her own choice for the betterment of the state and the nation.

ADC & ERO Phek T Moa Lemtor spoke on the significance of the National Voters’ Day, stating that the day is dedicated to all the voters. He also said voting is not only the right of the electors but also a duty of every adult above eighteen years whose names are in the electoral roll.
A speech was delivered by Veshenielu Tetseo on behalf of the newly enrolled voters while new electors Amos Aier and friends presented a special song.
EAC Phek Hq Er Omegali chaired the function while Asst Election Officer, Phek, Nathan Konyak delivered the vote of thanks. DC and DEO Phek administered the voters’ pledge during the programme.
Booth Level Officer Veduzo, primary teacher of GPS Mutsale village under 19th Phek A/C, was awarded the Certificate of Commendation in recognition of his distinguished service rendered as BLO towards the successful conduct of special summary revision of electoral.
LONGLENG
In Longleng, the 13th National Voters’ Day was held at the DPDB conference hall.
The National Voters’ Day speech was delivered by Trongdiba Tongpi, SDO Civil and Nodal Officer, SVEEP, Longleng and Dr Mahabir Jha, Asstt Prof Yingli College.

Congratulating the best BLO awardees, Trongdiba acknowledged the efforts rendered by the BLOs to have a clean and genuine Electoral Roll to conduct free and fair elections in the district. He also urged the young registered voters to be an agent of change and set a good example by casting their vote fearlessly without being influenced by others.
The SDO administered the voter’s pledge to the gathering.
Dr Mahabir Jha spoke on the significance of observing the day and appealed to the gathering to exercise their franchise to choose an efficient leader for change and development of the nation. He also spoke on negative aspects of democracy in India and urged the participants to uphold the democratic traditions of our country.
Best BLO awardee Shumei Antony, 50 A/C Longleng, also spoke on behalf of the BLOs of the district and encouraged the gathering to bring changes in society through the power of voting rights.
Earlier, the best BLO award was presented by AEO Longleng Lungkupe while the invocation was pronounced by Imkong DB. The programme was chaired by Mensang, UDA Election office, and culminated with a vote of thanks by Samuel Akho Konyak, EAC, Longleng.

MELURI
The 13th National Voters’ Day was observed at ADC’s office, Meluri with ADC Meluri Albert Ezung as the guest of honour

Ezung said the day is observed as enshrined in the Indian Constitution so that no voters will be left out and to ensure that every eligible voter will enjoy his/her adult franchise. He also appealed to the participants to spread the importance of the Voters’ Day.
During the programme, the significance of voting was highlighted by EAC Meluri Sakuchingmak.
The welcome address and vote of thanks were delivered by EAC Lephori C Tsalimse Sangtam and EAC Phokhungri Limakumla Pongener respectively.
Best Booth Level officer (BLO) of 20th AC Meluri was awarded to P Neicha.
The programme was attended by the Heads of Offices under Meluri Sub-Division, BLO’s under 20 AC Meluri, ward chairmen and GBs of Meluri Town, political parties and public leaders from various NGOs.
CHOZUBA
The 13th National Voters Day was observed at the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chozuba.

ADC cum AERO Imokokla delivered a speech and administered the pledge of NVD. Mutsoveyi was declared as the best Block Level Officer (BLO) 2023 of the 18th Assembly Constituency, Chozuba.
The felicitation of new voters enrolled was the highlight of the programme. N Nyamok Konyak, Extra Assistant Commissioner, delivered the significance of NVD.
Sangpangchang Longkumer, EAC, presided over the ceremony. The occasion was witnessed by political parties, BLOs, NGOs along with newly enrolled voters.
MOKOCHUNG
A programme was held at DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung with Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, the DC said it was the day of celebration for all the voters with special emphasis on PwD voters and newly enrolled young voters. He also called upon the BLO/Supervisors and all stakeholders to make the E-roll clean and transparent to increase the qualitative aspects of election conduct in our district. He also spoke on the issue of benchmarking PwD voters and special provisions on accessibility to voting facilities in the polling station. He also called upon every voter to vote with conviction without any impudence.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Addl DC and ERO Mokokchung Chumlamo Humtsoe. A special song was presented by Supongsangla Jamir, PwD ICON Mkg, and a short speech was delivered by Imkongnungchet Kichu, President, Mokokchung Disable Forum.
The programme was chaired by Renben Mozhui, Assistant Election Officer, Mokokchung, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Zerutso Kesizie, EAC Mokokchung.
On the occasion, the Best BLO Award was presented to the awardees and felicitation of newly enrolled voters and the administration of voters pledge was conducted by ADC & ERO Mokokchung.
TUENSANG
District administration and Election Office Tuensang conducted the 13th National Voters Day at DC’s Conference Hall.
DC and District Election Officer Tuensang Nokchasashi said the election is the biggest event in a democracy and encouraged the gathering to enjoy the power of the vote, stating that it should not be influenced by muscle power and bribery.

National Voters’ Day is celebrated to commemorate the foundation day of the ECI and the objective of ECI is that no one should be left out of the electoral processes in the country, he said.
Nochasashi also highlighted the introduction of online voting for the PwDs and senior citizens and the PwDs and senior citizens to come and participate in the election processes.
He appreciated the tireless efforts of the election branch Tuensang BLOs for enabling all eligible voters to be enrolled in the latest e-roll and also congratulated the newly enrolled voters of the district.
The DC also felicitated C Akhangnongba, SA PWD 51/21 YAngpi ‘B’; Chomongliba, PT GPS 52/23 Phir Ahir; Yensenlepba Chang, GT 53/19mNAP sector S/W; and A Chumikham Chang, PT 54/9 Tuensang village as best performing BLOs under Tuensang district.
Thungchanbemo Tungoe, ADC & ERO Tuensang, conducted the NVD pledge while Nilo Katiry, AEO Tuensang, gave the welcome address in the programme.
WOKHA
Wokha District Administration & District Election Office, Wokha organised the 13th National Voters Day at DC’s Conference Hall Wokha.
DC Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, said this day is being observed to commemorate the establishment of the Election Commission of India and to inspire young voters to get involved in the election process and to let them know about their voting rights.
He said the focus is not just on the number of voters but on the quality of voters that is the PWD voters (People with Disability) and the senior citizens with the focus to create more facilities and allow them to take part in the election process.
The DC also appealed to all the citizens to take part in the coming election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
District Icon Lothunglo Ezung, who also delivered a short speech, appealed to the people to choose the right leader/candidate who will work for the welfare of their society and see to a prosperous society.
“As we observe this day to encourage the young people to participate in the election process and to let them know that the right to vote is their basic fundamental right, let us all make the election an environment of a festive season,” said ADC Wokha K Furhesie Nyuwi.

During the programme, M Hachanbemo Ngullie and K Y John Ezung were awarded the Best Booth Level Officer (BLO) for 37 and 38 Assembly Constituencies.
Wonchibemo T Odyuo and Chonchilo T Murry, both from GHSS, were adjudged the winners of the Comics Strip competition while Rendeno of LMS was awarded the runner-up of the comics strip competition which was conducted last year under the SVEEP exercise.
EAC Wokha Rosy Sangtam chaired the programme while AEO Wokha Chisho K Swu delivered the vote of thanks.
CHÜMOUKEDIMA
The District Election Office of Chümoukedima celebrated National Voters Day at DC’s Conference Hall Chümoukedima.
DEO and DC Chümoukedima Abhinav Shivam, IAS, stated that Nagaland is beautiful with good people, rich culture and hospitality. He pointed out that human resources in Nagaland is not a problem but one can see only three avenues of employment in Nagaland – government services, politics and contractors. He urged the younger generation to explore themselves and make a choice to change the things they want to see change in their society.
He further appealed to the voters to make a choice not to take money to cast a vote but instead demand good roads, education and hospitals.
The problem with socialization is that we fall into the briberies of good and bad, black and white, the DC stated. He further added that things will not transform immediately but they will set the motion in the right direction.

A certificate of commendation and cash were awarded to Hongking Chang (4 Ghaspani-l) and M Yourkrotuo Michia (5 Ghaspani-ll) by the DC. Chang and Michia were awarded in recognition of the distinguished service rendered as booth level officers (BLO) towards the successful conduct of the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll 2022, One BLO each from Assembly Constituency was identified from 4 Ghaspani-I and 5 Ghaspani-II.
The programme was chaired by EAC Chümoukedima Dziesengunuo Mere.
Opening remarks were given by ADC Chümoukedima Dr Kuzonyi Wideo.
This was followed by a screening of the ‘Main Bharat Hoon’ song and the launch of the SVEEP video of General Election 2023. SDO (civil) Temsuchuba Jamir delivered the vote of thanks.
