15th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2022 kicks off in Mokokchung

Mokokchung: Featuring 18 teams, the four-day volleyball tournament in Mokokchung will take place from 20-23 September

The 15th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball trophy 2022 began on Tuesday here at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The tournament is organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA).

The convener of the organising committee, Allen Imchen, gave the welcome address during the opening programme while a short speech was delivered by the inaugural patron, N Jamonger Ao, Assistant Director F&CS.

Appreciating the players for their hard work, Ao encouraged them to seize the day as it was their moment to shine. He also encouraged the players to belong in the category of diligent people who work hard.

The assistant director further lauded the organising committee for organizing a wonderful tournament and bringing Mokokchung alive with such vibrant events. He added that he could proudly say, “Mokokchung District is a factory of Volleyball Players in Nagaland.”

The youth mentor of MTBA, Benjongsenla, pronounced the invocation, bringing the programme to an end.

Then the 15th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball trophy 2022 got underway with the first match between Shipu Sporting Club Sungkomen and Kumlong Sporting Association A.

The inaugural match was won by the Kumlong Sporting Association A with score points of 25-19, 25-17.

Following are the results of the others matches on 20 September:

  • The second match of the day was won by Tuensang Volleyball Association leading three sets (25-27, 25-16, 25-16) against Friends United Chakpa.
  • Volleyball for Peace Longsa B won over Waromong Sports Association Jangjanglong Club with 23-25, 25-17, 25-17.
  • The young team Yimyu beat Kumlong Sporting Association B in two straight sets of 25-23, 25-22.
  • Vision Volleyball Club Tuensang won its first match by defeating Tuli Volleyball Team by 25-23; 25-18.
  • Vision Quest V K Town beat Fazl Ali College by 15-25; 24-26.
  • The defending champions, Changtongya Volleyball Association, dominated the game in the eight match of the day. They secured an easy win against the crowd favourite Volleyball for Peace Longsa A with 25-17, 25-17.
  • After losing its first match to Vision Volleyball Club Tuensang, Tuli Volleyball team came back strong in their second match to secure a win. They manged to get a free win against Arikotong Club by 25-20, 25-11.
  • After losing its first match to Yimyu in two straight sets, Kumlong Sporting Association B also made a comeback attempt against United Soyim Club Ungma, wining the first set (25-21). However, the United Soyim Club Ungma led the next two set to win the match (21-25, 23-25).

Altogether 18 Teams are participating in this edition of the trophy: two teams from Tuensang, one team from Kohima, one team from V K and 14 from Mokokchung.

The four-day volleyball tournament will culminate on 23 September.
