16 Days Activism Against Gender Based Violence cum Human Rights Day culminates at Longleng

Longleng: PBCA Women Secretary encourages women and children to report to higher authority if they face harassment

The 16 Days Activism Against Gender Based Violence cum Human Rights Day program, organised by District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women and Sakhi-One Stop Centre Longleng in collaboration with Phomla Hoichem and Phom Student Conference Longleng, culminated on 9th December 2023 at DPDB Hall, DC Complex, Longleng. The event was held under the theme “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls” on 9th December 2023.

According to DIPR, in his introductory note, SDO (Civil) & Nodal officer BBBP/DHEW, Longleng Meyaz talked about Non-violence against women and child and said that there are so many rights and power given by the Government to protect Women and children. He urged women and young ones to understand and exercise the rights given to them by the government. He ended his speech saying “Ignorance of law is not an excuse”.

Women Secretary, PBCA, Longleng P Angbhenla Phom in her speech said that in the olden days, in Phom culture, there were no such things as harassment, violence, or ignorance of women and children. With supportive society and parents, women prospered in certain field that were made for them, she said, regretting that in this present day, suddenly we are becoming victims of violence. She encouraged women and children to consult or report problem to the higher authority if they face harassment. She also said that every individual has the right to be informed about their rights and duties.

Special number was presented by HelaJaa Wung and the programme was chaired by DEO DHEW Longleng N. Sangla Phom. Pledge on “16 Days of Activism Against Gender – Based Violence” was administered by Case Worker OSC Longleng, Shandimoinyei A. Phom.
