The 16th Jalukie Valley Open Football Tournament concluded successfully on December 13 at the Local Ground, Samziuram Village. The tournament culminated in an exciting final match between Samziuram Youth Organisation and New Jalukie Youth Organisation, where Samziuram Youth Organisation emerged as the champions after a thrilling penalty shootout.
The champions were awarded a cash prize of ₹2 lakh along with a certificate, while the runners-up received ₹1 lakh.
Individual awards were presented as follows:
Golden Boot: Paulinlung (New Jalukie Youth Organisation)
Golden Glove: Kevichuto (Beisumpuikam FC)
Player of the Tournament: Akiak (Samziuram Youth Organisation)
Each individual award recipient received a cash prize of ₹5,000.
The closing ceremony was graced by D Robin, NCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Peren, as the Special Guest. In his address, he congratulated all the participating teams and specially appreciated the finalist teams for their commendable performance and sportsmanship. He acknowledged the dedication and effort of the players, stating that their skills and talent had brought immense satisfaction to the spectators.

Highlighting the importance of football, he remarked that the game is not merely a sport but a powerful medium for fostering unity. He expressed hope that Jalukie Valley would continue to grow stronger and more united through such sporting events. He further observed that villages in the Zeliangrong areas, particularly in Jalukie Valley, reserve prime locations for local grounds, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted connection with sports.
Encouraging young players, he urged them to pursue football as a career and make the best use of their talents. He also motivated them to aspire beyond representing their villages and youth organisations, aiming for state, national, and even international platforms.
Emphasising discipline, he advised players to respect match officials, adhere to the rules of the game, and strive for excellence in their sporting journey.
The programme began with an invocation by Wichunbou Marenmai, Pastor, Liangmai Baptist Phumling Samziuram, followed by a special song presented by Keyisuile Thou. The programme was compered by Pekikhunliu, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Khangjang Gonmei, Secretary, JVYO. The flag de-hoisting ceremony was conducted by Masang, President, JVYO.
