17 people have reportedly been killed in a reactor explosion at a pharma company in Achyutapuram SEZ in Anakapalle district, Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon. Over 35 employees are said to have been injured in the incident among whom some are reported to be in critical condition.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep shock over the reactor explosion incident at the industrial area. He directed the authorities to focus on saving the lives of those undergoing treatment. The CMO informed that the CM has assured that the government will stand by the families of the deceased. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to look into the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured. He condoled the loss of lives due to mishap at the factory and also wished speedy recovery for those injured.
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar have also expressed anguish over the incident in Anakapalle district in Andhra Pradesh. Both extended their condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, the recently ousted Chief Minister of the State, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has offered deep condolence to the bereaved families. He has demanded for Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of those who died at the pharma company explosion at Achyutapuram SEZ, best medical care free of cost for the injured and financial assistance to the injured till they recover. He also demanded for a high-level inquiry and for strict measures to be taken so that such happenings can be prevented in the future.
