178 cases/disputes disposed of in State Lok Adalat in seven districts

Kohima: Settlement amount involved in some cases amounts to total of Rs 34,15,81,243

National Lok Adalat was held in seven District headquarters in Nagaland on Saturday, organized by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs). On this event, seven sitting benches were constituted in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Peren, Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Wokha at the District Court Premises, each headed by Chairperson/Secretary of the DLSAs.

Nagaland State Legal Service Authority (NSLSA) informed that a total of 178 cases/disputes were disposed of in the State Lok Adalat out of the total 973 disputes/matters/cases listed for compromise settlement which includes cases in pending stage as well as in pre-litigation stage mostly in the category of bank Recovery, Motor Accident Cases Tribunal (MACT) and other cases viz. public utility i.e Telephone Bills and Matrimonial disputes.

Settlement amount involved in some of the cases amounted to a total of Rs 34,15,81,243. This Settlement Amount is the amount mutually agreed for payment between the litigants (or) parties who are involved in a dispute where the parties on arriving at a consensus, the willing amount to settle the disputes for the damaged caused or a negotiated amount for payment on a claim by a party. Settlement amount also includes the fine money, Bank recovery money, money suits, compensation money.

One MACT case was taken up through video conferencing for Tuensang DLSA.

The core aim of this people’s court arrangement was to settle disputes/cases at pre-litigation stage i.e before the case is filed in the court and in addition some pending cases in the court of law which are admissible under the Lok Adalat regulation to be settled through compromised and amicable means.
