In his speech, Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic resources A Panjung Jamir acknowledged the family and board of Governors and Kohima Ongpangkong Telongjem for being great facilitators to uplift the spirit of academic excellence in their society. Reflecting on the personality of Late N.I. Jamir, the Advisor mentioned that Jamir was a legendary, notable person who had served in the Government service in the top most position as Chief Secretary and also joined politics and served as a Cabinet Minister in the State. While serving the state Govt. as a bureaucrat, Jamir was known for his magnanimity, who spent most of his days posted in the ENPO and Sumi areas. The Advisor expressed hope that this award ceremony will truly motivate the students to keep excelling in academics and sway the flag of “Education & Knowledge” higher and louder.
“Excellence means greatness- the very best. Achieving excellence is never easy to do and that Excellence is the quality of excelling, of being truly the best at something and is truly an investment that gives us a return even long after the efforts have been made. Today is a day of celebration,” said Jamir.
Delving on the essence of excellence, the Advisor was of the view that academic excellence is not only an ability to score high marks, but it also includes the ability to cope with the changing world and be well equipped for the future and includes the ability to display the superior performance in all scholastic and moral activities including good behavior and Fear of the Lord.

“The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. “Excellence” is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and efficiency,” stated Jamir.
With the 21st century being known as the “Era of Technology”, Jamir focused on the need for the society to move in tandem with the advancement in Science and Technology. “The field of Information Technology (IT) is known for its promising career opportunities and the potential for growth. The future is Artificial Intelligence (AI). We Nagas are too stuck with the over-exhausted career of Doctors and Engineer and that it is time to go beyond these opportunities by conquering Space and the potentials of Science and Technology.” said Jamir.
The Advisor also exhorted the gathering to navigate their academic journey with a clear sense of purpose. A strong sense of career purpose, according to Jamir, helps align one’s academic goals with long-term career goals. He appealed the gathering to embrace their journey, find their purpose, and watch their academic endeavours soar to new heights.
“In this fast growing era where Science & Technology is in high pace, I would like to encourage the youngsters of today to preserve our culture and tradition. There are many indigenous people and tribes across the world from the Arctic to the Pacific but we Aos are very privileged as we have very distinctive cultural and traditional practices. A cultured person is always looked up and respected. One’s Hereditary derivations and origins should be always saved and preserved,” stated Jamir.
The need to maintain and preserve one’s mother tongue was also stressed, where Jamir urged the young to practice through simple ways such as addressing elders and the young using native terms
“Striving for excellence can lead to personal fulfilment, professional success, and recognition from others. It requires dedication, hard work, and a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected. In essence, excellence is about setting high standards for yourself and consistently meeting or exceeding those standards in pursuit of your goals,” added Jamir.
