The Governor’s Award for 2021 and 2022 for distinction in the fields of Arts, Music and Literature were given out by Nagaland Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan on 27 September.
The recipients of the 19th edition of the Award were
- Wapang Ozukum – Art (Fine Art-2021)
- Sunep Lemtur – Music (Performing Art & Entertainment/Amusement-2021)
- Zangzang Zeliang – Music (Video Producer-2021)
- Bethel Tsuzu – (Education and piano-2022)
- Tali Angh – Music (Pop/Contemporary Christian Music-2022)
The recipients were each rewarded cash prize of 5 lakhs, silver plaque and citation.
Congratulating them, the Governor said that the awardees were achievers who through hard work and sheer determination have secured success. He added that they had overcome enormous odds with their remarkable courage and indomitable faith.
He further encouraged Nagas to use art, music and literature to effectively spread awareness and educate the public about various social issues.
Since the inception of the Governor’s Award in 2003, the award has been handed out during Independence Day. However, the award ceremony for the last two years had to be deferred due to the pandemic, Professor Mukhi explained.
The guidelines and procedures for the selection of the award are monitored by the Department of Art and Culture and approved by the State Cabinet in 2004. It involves all the district administration and various Social Cultural Organizations.
