1st Nagaland Masters TT Championship concludes in Kohima

The 1st Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Championship under the aegis of Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Association (NMTTA) and Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA) concluded in Kohima on Saturday evening.

Seven districts participated in the two-day tournament where 44 veterans competed for the team championship besides other individual categories. The masters (veterans) in Table Tennis sport are players who have entered 40 years of age and upwards.

Kohima District emerged as the champions in 40+ Men’s Team category, while Meluri District grabbed the 50+ Men’s team champions title.

On day one of the championship, IGP Kevithuto Sophie exhorted the participants on the importance of maintaining good health and fitness in continuing sports to avoid sedentary lifestyle diseases and recounted his earlier days of Table tennis sporting in the late 70’s. Saying an Ideal mind is a devil’s workshop, he emphasized on the necessity to keep one occupied with healthy lifestyle through sports.

NCS officer Kovi Meyase speaking as the guest of honour on day-two appreciated and commended the organizers for the smooth conduct of the tournament and that Masters Association are key to promoting the sport across the districts of the state. He also said that Nagas are naturally gifted and suited to physical sports like Table tennis and wished the winners will perform well at the upcoming North East Masters Championship which is scheduled at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.

40+ Mens Team Champion– Kohima –A

Runner Up– Dimapur –A
