Salangtem Youth Union, Mokokchung kicked off its first Futsal Tournament under the aegis of Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), under the theme, “Focus to endure” on 20 June 2023. The tournament will run for three days until 23 at Mojabi Football Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung.
The inaugural programme of the tournament was graced by Jamonger Ao, ADS, Food & Civil Supplies, as the Guest of Honour.

In his speech, Ao praised SYU for organising such a tournament which is vital. He accentuated that a vibrant Mokokchung is needed to thrive in all kinds of activities and catch up with the rest of the state and the world. He encouraged the gathering to be practical and have specific objectives and urged the organisations, officers, individuals, and churches to be action oriented and prioritise results over minimal talk about progress. He emphasised upon the word, “Balance” and urged every individual to maintain a balance in all aspects of one’s life.
Jamonger Ao also unveiled the tournament’s Mascot.
Organising Committee Convenor, Imtisungkum in his welcome address said, “Sports, earlier was played as a part of extra-curricular activity but now it is considered a co-curricular activity”. “We aim to mould and nurture disciplines, perseverance and other personality developing virtues. Hence, we have also organised this tournament keeping in mind that sports discipline a person in so many aspects”, Jamonger further added.
Short speeches were delivered Lanuakum, Chairman of Salangtem Ward and Meyisanger Lemtur, President of MDFA.
Altogether, 31 teams are participating in the inaugural futsal championship from Mokokchung and the neighbouring districts.
The first match of the tournament was played between Junior FC and Plan B where Plan B emerged victorious with a score of 6-1.
The second match was played between, Patron SC and Hill warriors, Khar where the latter won against the former by a score of 4 goals.
The third match was played between Havana Team and Buddies (Kohima) and the Havana team won by a score of 3 goals.
