1st SDBA Open Doubles Badminton Tournament gets underway

The first edition of the Shamator District Badminton Association (SDBA) Open Doubles Badminton Tournament kicked off on Monday at the Multi Discipline Sport Stadium Shamator. The tournament will be held till August 13.

MLA and advisor Youth Resource and Sports S Keoshu Yimkhiung who graced the inaugural function highlighted about sports discipline and the importance of sports. He said there are 27 disciplines of sports, badminton being one of them.

In badminton, he said, there is not age limitation where young and old, men and women can play. He asked the SDBA to give proper training particularly to the young generation so that they can compete with others and bring laurels to the district.

The legislator also pointed out that in the sports sector, there is no backdoor appointment but an open field where everybody can play.

He highlighted that both the central and state governments are giving importance to

sports and are looking to promote the upcoming youth from every corner who are interested and excelling in sports. He maintained that the government cannot provide government jobs to everyone but through sports, whether educated or uneducated, anyone who has talent in sports can excel.

He encouraged the youth to avail the opportunity through sports and turn it into a professional career.

Earlier the program was chaired by SDBA general secretary Lakiumong Yimchunger

while welcome note was delivered by SDBA vice president Royim Yimchunger. Oath-taking for the tournament was administered by District Sports Council member Shamator Solumba Yimchunger.
