Dimapur: NSF appeals for immediate restoration, repairing works of two major bypass routes

Two lanes of National Highway (NH-29) stretch between Chumoukedima and Jharnapani towards Kohima has been reopened, the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur notified on Wednesday in a Travel Advisory.

However, the two lanes “on the right hand side towards Kohima (Valley/ Riverside)” will be only open only for medical emergencies and heavy vehicles carrying essential goods.

The Office also advised all travellers to “maintain extreme caution” and to avoid non-essential stoppage along the stretch of NH-29.

Movement of all other vehicles remains diverted towards the Bypass route, 7′ Mile Jn CMD – Shokhuvi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Punglwa-Jharnapani-Medziphema and vice versa, till further notice, the Office stated.

Meanwhile, the Naga Students Federation (NSF), on Wednesday, appealed for immediate restoration and repairing works of the two major bypass routes, one along NH-29 at 7 Mile Chumoukedima Jn-Shokhuvi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Pungwla-Jharnapani-Medziphema and the other along Kohima-Zhadima-Tsosinyu-Nuiland-Dimapur for the convenience of the public and other travellers.

Expressing its pain over Tuesday’s tragedy that has left two dead and three injured, the Federation urged the concerned authority and the NHIDCL “to immediately set up all safety measures and other vital infrastructures in place so that such fatal incidents are averted in the near future.”
