20th Nagaland State Chess championship 2024 held in Kohima

The 20th Nagaland State Chess championship 2024 organised by the Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) was held at the  Nagaland Olympic Association office complex, Kohima. The event concluded today, August 1 with S.Keoshu Yimkhiung MLA,Advisor Youth Resources and Sports who graced the valedictory function as the special guest.

Acknowledging the participants, Yimkhiung said, “Over the past few days, we have witnessed not just a display of intellectual prowess but also a celebration of sportsmanship, dedication, and the unifying power of chess.”

He stated that this year’s championship had been particularly special as it marks two decades of the State’s commitment to fostering the game of chess. “We have seen the sport grow from a niche interest to a celebrated competition that attracts talent from all corners of the state and this growth is a testament to the hard work and passion of everyone involved-players, coaches, organizers, and supporters,” said the Advisor.

Whether professionals or newcomers, Yimkhiung said, each of them  has contributed to the richness of the tournament. He also encouraged the participants that every move made, whether it led to victory or defeat, has added to their experience and growth as a chess player.

Congratulating the winners, Yimkhiung said, their achievements are a reflection of their dedication and hard work, reminding them that they  had set a high standard for future competitions.

He also encouraged all the participants to keep honing their skills and passion for chess.

He urged coaches and mentors for their  guidance and support which is  instrumental in shaping the talented individuals.

 

“Chess is not just a contest of intellect but a bridge that connects us all, transcending age, background, and experience,” remarked the Advisor.

A total of 76 participants participated in the tournament  with the youngest participant as 6 years old Reku Haikam and 68 years old K Sekhamo as the oldest player.

It has been Informed that the Top four winners will participate on National level  which will be held in Haryana.

Best female player: Shenikali Hesso

Best 60 years above: Sede Nagi

Best under 7 years players: Noune Terhuja
