The 22nd edition of NSF Martyrs’ Trophy kicked off at Indira Gandhi Stadium, here on Friday. The inaugural ceremony was graced by leader of the Naga People’s Front Legislative Party (NPFLP) and co-chairman of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Kuzholuzo Nienu, as the chief guest.
Azo, highlighting on the sports scenario in Nagaland, pointed out that it was a matter of shame that even after more than 58 years of attaining statehood, Nagaland was yet to produce any sportsperson apart from Dr T Ao and Chekrovolu Swuro, who were both Olympians. He added that it was high time to do research as to why Nagaland was lacking behind in the field of sports.
Azo said Nagaland could learn a lot from neighbouring state Manipur and that it was high time for the state to wake up and work if it wants to be anywhere in the sports scene.
Azo also stressed on the need for players to have the power of consistency. He advised the players to take sports and games seriously and to live a healthy sports life.
