22nd Peshu Students’ Union Silver Jubilee Memorial Football Tournament concludes

The 22nd edition of the Peshu Students’ Union Silver Jubilee Memorial Football Tournament concluded on 9 January with Peshu Students’ Union (PSU) FC, the three times consecutive winner of the tournament, once again emerging as the champions.

The football tournament had kicked off on 3 January under the theme ‘Goal for Unity’.

At the closing ceremony, special guest Shangchiu, president of the Khiamniungan Students Union, expressed his appreciation towards the athletes for their success in the recent Nagaland Olympics and said they would remain an inspiration to young sport aspirants.

He added that many potential athletes are rising in the district and proper guidance for them is needed. He further urged the players to attain the spirit of a true sportsman.

Shangchiu appreciated the PSU for organising the tournament and also encouraged the Union to focus on individual sport disciplines.

The champions of the tournament, Peshu Students’ Union FC, received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while runners-up Eh-Hou King received Rs 30,000.

Damtsou King Eleven and Jingphu Sporting Club, the other teams who reached the semi-finals, received an award of Rs 5,000 each.

Bumiu of Jingphu Sporting Club bagged the Golden Glove award while Thangpong of PSU FC received the Golden Ball award. Haimong of Kaishu FC ‘A’ got the Golden Boot award.

All three individual winners were presented Rs 2,000 each.

Altogether, nine teams participated in the football tournament which witnessed sportsmanship spirit from the players and endless support from the spectators.
