The Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan along with Kargil War Veterans, Veer Nari/Next of Kin (NOK), Army officers, Jawans, Students, CSO leaders and the staff of Raj Bhavan observed the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Wednesday at the Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor lauded the courage, patriotism and sacrifice of our gallant Indian army soldiers who, from 5th May to 26th July 1999, valiantly fought at the high altitude, snow bound areas of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir to liberate the Indian territory from the Pakistani Army.
The Governor said the Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to mark the end of Kargil war on 26th July 1999. Remembering the brave warriors, the Governor mentioned that the citizens stand in salute for the officers and troops who gave their ‘Today’ for our ‘Tomorrow”. He also acknowledged all the brave soldiers from Nagaland who displayed exemplary courage and patriotism during the war. He shared that the story of the victory of Kargil inscribed in the peaks of Kargil, 24 years ago, will continue for many generations to come.

The Governor along with the citizens of Nagaland paid tribute to the brave and fearless soldiers of Mother India, who stood firm on the line of duty and are no more with us. He said that our great Nation will continue to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of these Braves hearts and their families and urged everyone to dedicate themselves towards the betterment of the Nation.
La Ganesan also handed over the appreciation certificate to the Kargil War Veterans.
Commandant, 1st Assam Rifles Col. SBB Sharma welcomed everyone to the solemn occasion and briefed on how the Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed not only as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of our nation but also to inspire the younger generation of national service and sacrifice.
The Inspector General, Assam Rifles North delivering the vote of thanks expressed gratitude to the Governor for gracing the occasion and recognising the efforts of the Kargil War Heros. The IG recalled the gallant act of Captain N Kenguruse MVC (Posthumous) and Honorary Captain Imliakum Ao, MVC.
Adding vibes of patriotism and nationalism to the momentous occasion, parents of Capt N Kenguruse MVC, girl cadets of NCC, students from various schools and colleges also attended the program.
Kargil War Veteran Sub Chankhothu and Neiselie Kenguruse f/o Lt Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC acknowledged the Governor and Army Officials for honouring the soldiers’ contributions and sacrifices by organizing such a grand programme. Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakhera, SM IGAR (N) pronounced the vote of thanks.
The program was also attended by DGP Rupin Sharma IPS, Shanavas C DC Kohima, DIG CRPF, Director Rajya Sainik Board and NCC officials.
