25th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy: CVYO blank guests Rever Gangtok 4-0, TKS triumph over Mez & Co

As the pre-quarters stage of the ongoing 25th Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy took off on Monday at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, Chedema Village Youth Organisation (CVYO) thrashed guest team Rever Gangtok which had a direct entry 4-0.

Lenboilun opened the account for Chedema with a brace in the 39th and 42nd minutes and Daniel further sealed the scoreboard in the 60th minute. Zemik’s goal in the 84th minute made it impossible for Rever to come back.

Robinson of Chedema was awarded the Player of the Match. The award was presented by former NSF vice president Sinhilo Thong, who is also a member of the tournament’s steering committee. Social Welfare joint director Imkongzenla Jamir was the match patron.

In the second match, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), another direct entry guest team defeated Mez & Co, who were gradually gaining popularity among football fans during the tournament.

In a tough battle, Chanso of TKS found the net in the 27th minute while Mez & Co equalised in the 64th minute. Although both teams fought hard, Wongshung and Samson’s late goals (83rd and 90+5 minutes respectively) assured a slot for TKS to remain in the tournament.

With the win, TKS will now face Chedema VYO in the quarter Finals on October 10.

TKS’s Wungshung was awarded the Player of the Match, presented by member of the tournament technical committee P George Vizo. Regional Transport Officer Kohima Roben Mesen graved the match as a patron.

On Tuesday, fans will be treated with an anticipated spectacle on the field as defending champions Sechü Zubza FC takes on Ward 19 Kohima.
