Defending champions Sechü Zubza FC blanked Red Scars FC in a nail-biting thriller on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima in the ongoing 25th edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy second quarter-finals match.

While the rain and foggy weather threatened to derail the crucial match, the players persevered with a goalless 90 minutes on both sides.

The Red Scars were on an attacking mode right from the starting whistle but Sechü Zubza FC’s skipper Neithovilie Chalieu denied them by making several critical saves. SZFC forward Lalminglu Vankal finally made a breakthrough during extra time in the 106th minute.

From then on, the defending champions pressed forward, attacking on every chance they could possibly get. They did not have to wait for long as Thejasetuo Gwirie scored the second goal three minutes later to affirm the Sechü Zubza side’s dominance and ensure his side a place in the semi-finals.

Lalminglu was presented the Player of the Match award which was handed over by the match patron Commissioner and Secretary Youth Resources and Sports Anthony Ngullie.

With this win, SZFC will play against a top-form Chedema Village YO in the first semi-final on October 15.
