The 27th Inter District and State Table Tennis Championships 2024 kicked off on 8th October, 2024. The Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) is organised by the Nagaland Table Tennis Association and the championships will proceed for three consecutive days i.e., 8th-11th October at the Indoor TT Stadium, Kohima.
Special guest Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports S. Keoshu Yimchunger in his speech highlighted that this championship is more than just a competition but rather, a celebration of athleticism, passion, and community. He added that it is a platform where emerging talent from different corners of our state can display their dedication, perseverance, and love for this incredible sport. He applauded the participants stating they traveled a unique path to be here, and their presence speaks volumes about their dedication, commitment, and unyielding passion for table tennis.
Yimchunger also encouraged them to strive for victory but also reminded them that true success lies not only in winning but the efforts they put in and displaying sportsmanship. He stated that every match they play is a step towards becoming a better athlete and, more
importantly, a better individual.
“In this championship, we are also witnessing the future of table tennis unfold before our very eyes. Many of the athletes competing today may one day represent our state and even our country on international stages, bringing glory to our region,” he added. He then urged the athletes to dream big, work hard, and aim for the stars stating they have the full support of the Department as the embark on this exciting journey.
He added that the practices of our Naga forefathers engaged in a number of physical activities like farming, hunting, fishing, and cultural dancing. Such activities were essential for survival and is also deeply rooted in our culture; resembling the values of modern sports. In sports, these activities not only keep the body physically fit but also built traits like resilience, teamwork, and endurance, which are vital in both sports and life.
He underscored that sports continue to be a powerful avenue for personal growth and societal advancement. It develops discipline, leadership, and social bonds, and has become a gateway for professional opportunities-through scholarships, government jobs, and even national or international recognition and by promoting sports among the younger generation, we are nurturing not just athletes but future leaders who will contribute to the overall progress of the community and the region. The physical, mental, and social benefits of sports, combined with the traditional values of our ancestors, can lead to holistic development for individuals and society as a whole. He encouraged all the players to play with their hearts, challenge their limits, and let the spirit of sportsmanship guide them throughout this tournament.
12 district is participating for both men and women.
The program was chaired by Vincent Belho, presidential address was made by President NTTA Vitho Neikha. Chief Referee Tiatemsu Imchen led the oath taking.
