28 % and 6.6 % of children below 5 years in Nagaland are stunted and underweight

In reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha asked by MPs S Supongmeren Jamir and Raja Ram Singh, the Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI, Savitri Thakur provided the State/UT wise data of malnutrition indicators of children aged 0-5 years as well as State/UT wise details of funds released under Mission Poshan 2.0 in the last three years.

As per the details provided by the Union Minister of State on December 13, 2024, 28% and 6.6% of the children (aged 0 – 5 years) in Nagaland were found to be stunted and underweight respectively, informed a press release by Communications Department, NPCC.

The details provided also indicated that neighboring Northeast States had lower percentage of stunted and underweight children where Manipur consisted of 7.7 (stunted) and 2.6 (underweight) children; Mizoram 26.7 (stunted) and 5.9 (underweight). Goa comprised of the lowest percentage with only 4.1 (stunted) and and 1.7 (underweight) children while Madhya Pradesh and Lakshadweep had the highest percentage of stunted children at 46. 5% and Madhya Pradesh with the highest percentage of underweight children at 26.5 percent.

Moreover, funds totalling to an amount of ₹622.01 Cr has been released to Nagaland during the last three years by the Central Government under Mission Poshan 2.0, as per the same details provided.

Uttar Pradesh and Assam received the highest amount of funds at 7798.11 crores and 5204.84 crores respectively.
