The 2nd Inter School Wokha District Sepaktakraw Tournament organised by the Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA) kicked off on 25th October at the Local Ground in Wokha. The opening ceremony was graced by Habenthung Ezung, Secretary & Convener of Trade Permit & License, Wokha Town Council, as the Special Guest.
Declaring the second inter-school tournament open, Ezung congratulated the WDSA for taking a keen interest in nurturing upcoming athletes and sports personalities from the district. He acknowledged that sports are a discipline that requires dedication and consistency, encouraging the students to give their utmost efforts with a holistic approach for excellence.
Ezung expressed that ultimately there will be only one champion in every game, yet he encouraged the participating schools that they are all victorious in themselves by participating through discipline, building strong relationships among the students and schools, and intimately winning the hearts of the people. Meanwhile, he wished them all the best in exhibiting their skills and talents.
Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by T. Thungchibemo Lotha, President of WDSA, who highlighted the history of the association, formed in 2021, and its active participation at the state and northeast levels, where they have accumulated various titles representing the district.
A short speech was also delivered by Libemo Jami, Wokha District Youth Resource and Sports Officer, who informed that the department is giving due importance to every field of sports in the district, extending assistance for the overall progress of youths in sports. He acknowledged the association for the successful conduct of the second edition of the tournament and informed that the department will be conducting a coaching camp in Wokha in a few days for Sepaktakraw.
Four schools are participating in the tournament in the categories of senior boys and girls, and junior boys.
The inaugural event was chaired by Myingthunglo N. Murry, Assistant Teacher at Mount Carmel School, Wokha Village, with the invocation prayer pronounced by T. Zubenthung Odyuo, Treasurer of WDSA. The event was enthralled by Mhabeni Kikon, Mt. Sinai School Wokha, with her melodious song, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Renpenthung Ngullie, Teacher-in-charge of Cistus School Wokha.
The tournament will culminate on 26th October 2024 with Yanrenthung Humtsoe, Chairman of MSMEPIC, Wokha district, as the valedictory guest.
