The 2nd Patkai Trophy kicked off on Thursday under the theme ‘Celebrating Talents’ at the Patkai Christian College Ground in Chümoukedima-Seithekema. The inter-institution championship is being organised by PCC to commemorate the upcoming 50 years anniversary of the college.
The inaugural program was graced by Chief Guest Colo Mero, Director of Life Ministries and Vice President, Nagaland Football Association (NFA). In his address, he lauded Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) for continuing its focus on the all-round development of the students. Mero also expressed his greetings from all alumni 1993 batch for being a part of this significant occasion.
He mentioned it was his first public event after being confined for health issues for nearly two years, as he failed to take care of himself while being busy serving the society, youth and sports for 32 years. Mero Mero advised the youth to prioritize their health first advised the youth to prioritize their health first even if they are very passionate and responsible about work, and emphasized on work-life balance.

He also reminisced about his college life at PCC and mentioned that this year marks the 31st years after graduating from the college. Mero stated that a college like Patkai gives God fearing knowledge, builds character, personality and it also gives endless opportunities to serve God and people around.
Coming to sports, the VP of NFA said that about 80 per cent of the world’s population is into sports. He pointed out that tournaments such as the Patkai Trophy brings unity and peace and creates connection between people. Colo Mero further encouraged the students to take these kinds of events as opportunities to bring changes.
The inaugural program was chaired by Songaror Horam, BA English, PCC; God’s blessings was invoked by Dr Vichukho Ngukha, Chaplin, PCC; welcome address was delivered by Wetshete Thopi, Dean of students, PCC; special presentation from Margaret Shishak School of Music, PCC; vote of thanks by IIung Haikupe, MA English PCC; benediction from Viravonuo Meyase, Girls’ Hostel Warden.
