Three people, including a constable, have been arrested by Mokokchung Police in a drug trafficking case, the Office of the Superintendent of Police Mokokchung informed in a press release on Thursday.

It said that a constable in DEF Mokokchung, Lanutoshi (33 yrs) was arrested on 1 July 2023 after a plastic soap container containing suspected Brown Sugar/Heroin concealed inside a parcel was recovered from his possession. The accused was earlier spotted receiving a parcel through a taxi driver at MMC Complex Sumo Stand, Mokokchung.

The suspected Brown Sugar/Heroin weighed around 09.27 grams.

Mokokchung Police stated that on further investigation, suppliers were identified and in this connection, a search was conducted in Dimapur on 5 July and arrested two persons namely Moameren Vmai (40 yrs) of Senapati, Manipur, presently residing at Naga United Village Chümoukedima and Buni Throzho (47 yrs) SS Kilonser NSCN –K (NIKI) Senapati, Manipur, presently residing at Rangailong Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur and also seized 1 (one) .22 pen pistol with 6 (six) .22 live round ammo from their possessions.

Accordingly, a case has been registered at MKG PS-I for further investigation, the statement said.

The Mokokchung Police has requested the general public for cooperation in combating the drugs menace and also informed that any person indulging in drug abuse and drug trafficking will be sternly dealt as per provision under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
