31 accused in Dimapur Airport land encroachment case; Chargesheets filed against 25 private individuals

In connection with the alleged illegal encroachment of Dimapur Airport land by private individuals, the Nagaland Police has filed chargesheets against 25 persons following a detailed investigation by a Special Investigating Team (SIT). A total of 31 individuals, including six public servants, have been named in the case.

The investigation was initiated following directions from the Home Department, after a preliminary enquiry revealed allegations of land encroachment involving forged and fabricated documents.

According to a press release issued by the Nagaland Police, the preliminary findings established a prima facie case involving cognizable offences. Consequently, a regular FIR was registered at the State Crime Police Station (SCPS), Police Headquarters.

A Special Investigating Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the matter. After an extensive investigation, including collection and scrutiny of documentary and other forms of evidence, the SIT identified 31 accused persons — comprising 25 private individuals and six public servants.

The SIT recommended that charges be framed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, and other related offences.

With due approval from the competent authority, the SIT has filed chargesheets against 25 private individuals in the appropriate court in Dimapur.

Regarding the six public servants implicated in the case, the Investigation Officer has sought sanction for prosecution from the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) and the Department of Land Records, Nagaland, as mandated under existing legal procedures.
