35th Mokokchung District Badminton Open Championship 2023 underway

Mokokchung: 76 players will be participating in 27 categories in the tournament

The 35th Mokokchung District Badminton Open Championship 2023, organized by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA), got underway at Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mokokchung on 29 June 2023.

Special Guest of the opening ceremony, N Jamonger Ao, Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Mokokchung highlighted the importance of sports associations in promoting sports and nurturing talented players. He also mentioned that sports associations in Nagaland need to strive for professionalism and encouraged them to participate in national and international competitions.

He also stated that Mokokchung in particular and Nagaland in general have many Sports Associations which are under one association.  Stating that it’s objectives are to organise such tournaments to promote sports and expressed that having such sports associations indeed has been promoting sports which strives in identifying talented players and spending time in nurturing them.

Ao appreciated the efforts of MDBA in organizing the tournament and supporting the development of sports in the district.

All together 76 players are participating in 27 categories; Under 9 girls singles, Under 9 boys singles, Under 11 boys singles, Under 11 boys doubles, Under 11 girls singles, Under 11 girls doubles, Under 13 boys singles, Under 13 boys singles, Under 13 girls singles, Under 13 girls doubles, Under 15 boys singles, Under 15 boys doubles, Under 15 girls singles, Under 15 girls doubles, Under 17 boys singles, Under 17 boys doubles, Under 17 girls singles, Under 17 girls doubles, Junior boys singles, Junior boys doubles, Junior girls singles, Junior girls doubles, Junior XD, Men’s singles, Men’s doubles, Women’s singles, Women’s doubles

Earlier, the program was chaired by Nokchanaro Longkumer, and Tiapokba Aier delivered the invocation. Martoshi, the President of MDBA, gave the welcome speech, and a special performance was presented by Lipokmen.

Two matches were played on the inaugural day: U-15 boys singles and U-11 boys doubles.

In the U-15 boys singles match, Arkutong defeated Tiamoa. The scoreline of the match was as follows:

Arkutong won the first game with a score of 21/23.

Tiamoa won the second game with a score of 21/07.

Arkutong won the third and final game with a score of 21/17.

In the U-11 boys doubles match, team Sentiyanger & Supongnukshi won against Moatangit & Lenjener. The scoreline of the match was as follows:

Moatangit & Lenjener won the first game with a score of 11/21.

Sentiyanger & Supongnukshi won the second game with a score of 21/18.

Sentiyanger & Supongnukshi won the third and final game with a score of 21/15.
