The 37th Mokokchung District Badminton Open Championship 2025, organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA), was officially inaugurated on July 10 at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mokokchung.

The opening ceremony began with an invocation by Bendangwati Jamir, Pastor of MTBA, followed by a welcome and introductory note delivered by Imomar, President of MDBA. A special performance was presented by Atila Longchar, after which the official speech of the Special Guest, Imtiyapang, Councillor of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), was read out by Chubawati Lemtur, Secretary of MDBA, as the guest could not attend in person due to unavoidable circumstances.

In his message, Imtiyapang conveyed his warm greetings and extended his best wishes to all participants and organisers. He expressed his regret for not being able to attend physically, stating that although he was away, his thoughts and prayers were with everyone present.

He praised the Mokokchung District Badminton Association for its dedication and tireless efforts in promoting badminton in the district despite infrastructural challenges. “Badminton is a highly technical game that requires physical strength and intense mental focus. It demands discipline of body, mind, and soul — a quality essential for success both in sports and in life,” he stated.

The Councillor expressed strong belief in the potential of the Naga youth in excelling at badminton, a sport that relies on agility, technique, and mental strength — qualities that are within reach regardless of physical stature. However, he also cautioned that a lack of discipline continues to be one of the major hurdles preventing talented youth from reaching their full potential.

He encouraged young sportspersons to stay dedicated, highlighting how sports today offer

opportunities not just in government sectors but also in the private domain, thanks to growing support from the corporate world. “Not everyone may reach the top level, but the discipline, journey, and healthy lifestyle one gains through sports make every committed player a winner,” he remarked.
