The 38th Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) Meet commenced on 4th February 2025 at Phek Town. Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Nagaland K.G. Kenye was the Special Guest of the inaugural ceremony of the event, which is hosted by PDSA in collaboration with the Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS).
Addressing the event, Minister Kenye emphasized the significance of sports in pushing human limits and fostering excellence. He noted that sports provide a global platform for competition, with records being continuously challenged and improved. He highlighted Phek district’s sporting potential but pointed out the lack of adequate infrastructure due to financial constraints. He stressed the need for better facilities and investment in sports to unlock the full potential of athletes.
Kenye also observed that excessive organizations in Naga society drain financial resources and called for prioritizing productive investments like sports, which can drive economic growth and employment. He further acknowledged the financial sacrifices made by parents to support young athletes.
Earlier, PDSA President Nezosa Tetseo introduced various trophies and acknowledged donors while highlighting the association’s achievements. Medal winners at international, national, and Northeast levels were felicitated.
The organisers also stated in the press release that the opening ceremony was led by General Secretary Rupfuzo Puro, with an invocation by Rev. Dr. Thupucuyi Khesoh, a folk song by Nusakholü Dawhuo and Tsuhveto Resuh, and the oath administered by Punuru Nienu, Sports Secretary of PDSA.
The meet will conclude on February 8.
CASA leads Medal Tally
On the opening day, Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) topped the medal tally with 15 medals (8 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze), followed by Chokri Area Games and Sports Association with 14 medals (6 gold, 7 silver, 1 bronze). Phek Area Sports Association stood third with 8 medals (2 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze), while Secheku Range Sports Association was at the bottom with 3 bronze medals.
Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) Naga Wrestling Championship was also held on Tuesday.
