On the second day of the 39th edition of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference at Küpza Village, Chief Guest Metsübo Jamir, Minister of RD & SIRD, Government of Nagaland encouraged the youth to focus on productive endeavours and not just seek government jobs.
Highlighting the issue of educated unemployment, Jamir informed during a recent survey, among 17 lakhs of population in Nagaland, it was found that 30 per cent of the youths, aged 25 to 35 years, are uneducated unemployed. The Minister stressed the need for practical experience alongside academic degrees and encouraged the students to have a purpose in life.

Addressing the conference theme, “Liberated Education,” Jamir challenged the students to welcome new ideas and work towards them. He emphasized the importance of a productive economy and called for skill development.
Earlier, the Chief Guest emphasized that we are living in history created by our forefathers and urged the younger generation to work towards future glories instead of dwelling solely on past achievements.
Metsübo Jamir expressed gratitude to the forefathers who initiated this visionary conference in the early 1960s, emphasizing the importance of knowledge as power. He challenged the younger generation to unite, uplift each other, and contribute to society.
In his brief address, Lanutoshi Aier, President of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (Ao Students’ Conference), quoted Barack Obama” “The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create”, to emphasize the importance of creativity and critical thinking for students in the present world during the 39th edition of the conference themed “Nüchiba Shisaluyimer” or “Liberated Education.”
Aier highlighted the contrast between the pre-COVID and post-COVID scenarios, pointing out that women have risen and thrived in self-employment while men remain in similar positions. He urged self-preparation in connection to the conference theme, emphasizing the need for introspection and self-motivation.
Referencing the need for production and liabilities in the future, Aier suggested the formation of a think tank group to contribute to society’s development. He stressed the importance of utilizing available resources to ensure a fruitful future for the younger generation.
R. Sunep Pongen, President of the Central Nagaland Students’ Association, focused on the struggles and formation of CNSA, specifically addressing the issues faced by Nagas of Nagaland. Pongen emphasized the importance of understanding Naga history and the ongoing Naga accord negotiations. He encouraged the younger generation to voice out concerns and make decisions that will shape their fate and contribute to the upliftment of Naga society.

Limatongzük Jamir, President of OKM, expressed gratitude in his welcome address and hoped that the conference theme, “Liberated Education,” would benefit students’ knowledge. The Chief Guest, Metsübo Jamir, released the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference Magazine named “Limketer,” and meritorious awards were presented to 31 students for their achievements in various fields.
The program, chaired by Nichet Jamir, included an invocation by S. Mar Aier, President of Ongpangkong Arogo Tenzüker Telongjem. The Conference choir presented a song, and the Chungtia Students’ Union performed a special song.
The third session of the conference featured a workshop on Careers and Prospects in Agri and Allied Sectors, with Dr. Sashiyangba as the resource person. Another focused on “Navigating through various Competitive Exams” with Likokba as the resource person. Nuksungmenla Jamir, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Fazl Ali College, served as the moderator.
