3D Dissection Table and Skill Lab inaugurated at NIMSR; UCO Bank donates 2 vehicles to institute

A state-of-the-art 3D Dissection Table and Skill Lab were inaugurated at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR) on 27 March 2025 at the NIMSR College Building.

The 3D Dissection Table is an Integrated Research and Teaching Learning Lab, a first-of-its-kind innovation in Northeast India, that is revolutionizing medical education. Its functions include:

– Interactive 3D visualization of human anatomy

– Virtual dissection for disciplines like Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and OBGYN

– Enhanced learning for medical, nursing, and postgraduate students

– A self-directed, collaborative learning approach.

The features of the Skill Lab for Clinical Training include

– A simulated training environment where students can hone clinical skills before real-patient interactions, featuring:

– Lifelike mannequins for procedural and communication training

– Skill development in cognitive, psychomotor, and teamwork (as per NMC guidelines)

– Debriefing sessions for performance review and improvement

– Enhanced patient safety and trainee confidence

The facilities were inaugurated by Renbomo Odyuo Joint Secretary, Health & Family Welfare (Skill Lab) and S Tainiu, Additional Secretary, Health & Family Welfare (3D Dissection Table).

Earlier, the event commenced with the formal handover of two Mahindra Bolero vehicles, donated by UCO Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and facilitated by Apex Motors.

Senior bank officials, including, Goutam Das Chief Manager, Kohima Branch and Narendra Pratap Singh, Zonal Head, Jorhat Zone, addressed the gathering, reiterating UCO Bank’s commitment to supporting healthcare and education in Nagaland. They praised NIMSR’s contributions to medical education and expressed enthusiasm for future CSR collaborations aimed at societal welfare.

Dr. Soumya Chakraborty Director-cum-Dean of NIMSR, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the vehicles, which will significantly improve medical outreach services, particularly in remote areas of Nagaland. She acknowledged the institute’s early challenges and emphasized how such support enhances operational efficiency.

Additionally, Dr. Chakraborty highlighted the transformative potentials of the 3D Dissection Table and the Skill Lab and thanked the Government of Nagaland for enabling its installation.
