4 arrested in Wokha minor assault case; 1 absconding

Wokha Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old minor girl, following an FIR lodged at Wokha Police Station on November 10.

The accused have been identified as Chumlanthung Y Humtsoe (26), Zurenthung R Odyuo (19), Zuchanbemo Felix (29) and Khyothungo Yanthan (21).

According to the complaint, Zurenthung R Odyuo, along with two associates, allegedly assaulted the minor on November 4. The case has been registered at Wokha Women Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A press statement issued by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wokha, Biren Lotha, informed that another individual, Myingthungo Humtsoe, was also found to be involved in the case and is currently absconding.
Speaking to the media additional SP informed that the victim is under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). He added that the investigation is at a preliminary stage and details of the incident cannot be disclosed at this time to protect the minor’s identity and avoid hindrance to the inquiry.
