40 Hours Mediation Training Program for Nagaland’s Judicial Officers and Advocates concludes

Kohima: 28 Judicial Officers and advocates complete training organised by NSLSA under the aegis of MCPC

The 40 Hours Mediation Training Program for Judicial Officers and Advocates of the state of Nagaland which began on 31 October 2023 concluded on Saturday. At the culmination program held at SIRD, Kohima, the certificates were handed over to the participants by Mezivolu T Therieh, OSD Registrar and Member Secretary, Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India, a press release from NSLSA said.

Speaking at the event, Therieh expressed hope that mediation will be taken forward in the state in the days and years ahead with judges and advocates being trained of the process. She said that mediation is said to be a movement and process and called the trainees to the movement ahead through them.

The advocate also said the training had come to a successful and conclusive training, and meanwhile thanked the trainers for putting efforts in providing the best and latest techniques, information and knowledge towards the Nagaland participants. Therieh added that it had culminated into self realisation and personality development through the training.

Dr Aditi Chaudhury, District Judge and Director Delhi Judicial Academy encouraged the trainees to become forerunners of mediation in the state and take it forward to become trainers of mediation not only in the state but outside Nagaland too. Chaudhury said that despite the technical curriculum of the training, she remarked that the training had been successful because the participants have felt the need and importance of mediation in the society.

Sharing experience from the training, Judicial officer, Kesheli Chishi said that although, there were Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system was present under the Constitution of India, there were many other aspects of mediation that was important to be trained and get acquainted with.

Sunjib Rana, advocate, shared that the role played by a mediator is very different from that of the one people perceive. Adding that it was a fruitful learning experience, he thanked the trainers from New Delhi for elaborately taking into the course of mediation during the 40 hours period.

Earlier, the program was chaired by NSLSA Member Secretary, Victo Sema, NJS. During the 5 days 40-hour Mediation training, 28 Judicial Officers and advocates completed the training. The programme was organized by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India from October 31 to November 4.

The training was conducted by trainers including Dr Aditi Chaudhury, District Judge and Director Delhi Judicial Academy; Nagina Jain, Advocate, Mediator Trainer, Delhi High Court; Harish Dudani, Principal Judge (Rtd) Delhi and Jaya Goyal, Advocate Mediator Trainer, Delhi High Court.
