43 Tapi AC set for polling on Tuesday

Mon: EVMS and VVPATS dispatched to first polling team

43 Tapi Assembly Constituency in Mon district is all set for polling on Tuesday, 7th November 2023. The by-poll in the Constituency was necessitated by the demise of its MLA, Late Noke Wangnao, on 28th August 2023.

There are two contenders for the seat, namely Wangpang Konyak of NDPP and Wanglem Konyak of INC. The Congress candidate had earlier this year lost to late Wangnao of NDPP by 82 votes.

Congress does not have any representatives in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

On Monday, the critical step of dispatching of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) devices to the first polling team for the Bye Election 43 Tapi AC took place. According to DIPR, the dispatching event of the EVMS and VVPATS was conducted in the presence General Observer MG Rajamaniackam, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Superintendent of Police, Mon Shiluwabang I Longkumer, and Rongsenmenla, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) & Returning Officer of 43 Tapi AC Mon.

The counting of votes is scheduled to be held on 3rd December 2023. In view of the vote counting day being a Sunday, the Naga People’s Front and the Konyak Union have requested the Election Commission to consider the religious sentiments of the majority Christian population and alter the date. ECI has however not replied to the appeals.
