45 persons in Pongching Village in Longleng district are reportedly hospitalised in a mass food poisoning incident on Friday.
The source of the poisoning has not been confirmed but it is learnt that Dharam Raj, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng has dispatched a sample of fish to be tested and evaluated at the State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL), Kohima.
In a letter to the Food Analyst of SPHL, the DC disclosed that officials who conducted a thorough investigation believed that the incident might had been caused by contaminated fish.

The DC appealed to the state lab “to conduct a comprehensive analysis to identify any potential
contaminants or harmful substances that may have contributed to the unfortunate incident of
mass food poisoning.”
He also said in the letter that the food poisoning incident in Pongching Village has caused significant distress and concern among the affected individuals and the community at large. He added that “appropriate measures were initiated to safeguard public health and ensure the well-being of the citizens.”
