4th Autumn festival- prelude to Hornbill festival conclude in New Delhi

The Autumn Festival which was celebrated as a prelude to the 26th edition of Hornbill Festival 2025 was held from October 24 to 25 at the lawns of Nagaland House, 29-Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi. The festival concluded with Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India as the Chief Guest on the second day of the Festival.

Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Government of Nagaland was the Chief Host of the event with Abu Metha, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of IDAN as the Co-host.

Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India addressing the gathering said that as seen through the Festival, the distinct Naga identity expressed with real confidence is a reminder that heritage is living, evolving and shared. Reminding that culture is not something we put on display, but it is a fundamental component of what we are as a people, the Ambassador added that it is a very important part of Irish foreign policy and in many ways its soft power.

Highlighting the historical similarities shared between Ireland, India and Nagaland of having emerged from colonial rule simultaneously, which he stated, gives the relationship a particular depth. The Ambassador further added that the strength of a nation lies inherent in all of its people, and in all of its diversity. He stated that Ireland’s relation with India is forward looking, focusing on trade, education, research, cultural collaboration, and that the two countries hopes to further build its relationship based on friendship and trust.

The Ambassador also pointed out that one common thing that Ireland and Nagaland share is awareness about the importance of identity and about respecting different diverse identity. He also expressed his excitement to travel to Nagaland with his colleagues later this year and experience the Hornbill Festival first-hand.

The highlights of the two-day event included an emphatic war dance performed by the Sumi Students Union Delhi on both the opening and closing function. Naga Artists like Colored Keys, The Mahila Band, The Eastory Project, Tiatemsu Jamir & Kiki Longkumer entertained the crowd by belting out popular songs. Traditional Naga textile, ‘The Indigo Medley’ designed by Kintem was also showcased during the event. Sharon Longchari, Joint Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, New Delhi delivered the welcome address and the programme was compered by Bangshing Panja.
