The Fourth Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament 2023 organized by Marepkong Youth Association under the theme “Towards Excellence” kicked off at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday. Sentitula, Division Forest Officer, Mokokchung was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Sentitula in her address, stated that one has to adapt to the evolving world and its advancement in technological era. “In this Alpha Generation age, sportsmen need to be smart, and be specified in their respective fields,” she said.

The DFO also challenged the participating players in the tournament to have a definite goal which should be accomplishable and further stated that one’s goal should be realistic when making it successful.

The Ceremonial Oath of the tournament was led by Limatemjen Pongen, President, MYA. A special number was presented by Moamerenla Jamir of Note Grid School of Music, Mokokchung, Nagaland at the inaugural programme.

Mongsenbai Ward vs Arkong Ward

In the first match of the day, Mongsenbai defeated Arkong Ward 3-0 with Imnatoshi scoring a brace in 3:40 and 56:41 minutes and Menjur also contributed a goal to the team in 59:00 minute.

Dilong Ward vs Penli Ward

In the second match Dilong team were crushed by 2-3 against Penli. In the last match of the day, Artang secured their first win by 3-1 against Alempang.

In this year’s edition, thirteen teams will be vying for the coveted title, which is considered as one of the top tournaments in Mokokchung District: Dilong Ward, LijabaLijen Ward, Sangtemia Ward, Mongsenbai Ward, Arkong Ward, Marepkong Ward, Penli Ward, Majakong Ward, Kumlong Ward, Yimyu Ward, Tongdentsuyong Ward, Alempang Ward and Artang Ward.
