5-day Bootcamp on Cybersecurity Essential Skills underway at NU’s Kohima Campus

A five-day Bootcamp on Cybersecurity Essential Skills was launched at the Kohima Campus of Nagaland University on March 17, 2025. The event is being organised by the Department of Information Technology at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), and will run through March 21, 2025.

Peter Ki, PRO, NU, informed in a press release that the programme is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of cybersecurity, equipping them with the skills necessary to address and prevent cybersecurity threats in today’s digital age.

During the inaugural function, Er. Shanchamo Yanthan, Assistant Professor in the Department of IT, Nagaland University, highlighted the growing significance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape. He underscored the need for individuals and organizations to understand the potential risks and take necessary precautions to protect their information and systems from cyber threats.

W. Ornendo Kr Singh, Senior Technical Officer (STO) and Nodal Officer of NIELIT Kohima, also addressed the gathering. He briefed participants on the topics that would be covered during the bootcamp, which include an in-depth understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, network security, data protection, ethical hacking, etc. He also provided an overview of the hands-on sessions, ensuring participants would gain practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.

Er. Akangjungshi Longkumer, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Nagaland University, graced the occasion with his valuable insights. He spoke about the real-world problems that can be mitigated through a solid understanding of cybersecurity, emphasizing its critical role in securing both personal and organizational digital infrastructures.

Earlier, Prof. Sujata Dash, Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology, Nagaland University, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm welcome to all participants, dignitaries, and resource persons from NIELIT, Kohima. She expressed her gratitude for the collaboration between Nagaland University and NIELIT, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in the modern, interconnected world.

The inaugural session was chaired by Er. Sourav Hazarika, Assistant Professor in the Department of IT, Nagaland University, and was attended by faculty members and students from the School of Engineering & Technology (SET), Nagaland University. The event concluded with vote of thanks by the chairperson Er. Hazarika.
