The 50th Anniversary of Phek Districthood was celebrated in a grand fashion on Thursday at the Local Ground in Phek Town under the theme ‘Transcending in Truth’. The event was graced by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who extended his congratulations to the people of the district on the milestone.
Speaking as the Special Guest, CM Rio acknowledged the pioneers of the district who have brought the Phek to its present status. He appreciated the citizens of Phek for their culture of hard work, truthfulness and honesty. He highlighted their achievements at the national and international levels while also keeping alive their culture, tradition and identity. Rio said that it is because of this that the district has earned the name ‘Land of Tradition’.
Rio also reminded that the Village Development Board was first launched in Phek district and that it has brought many accolades to Nagaland State from all over nation. He wished that the district will continue to shine bright in every sphere and keep attaining higher pinnacles of glory through its achievements.
During the program, the Chief Minister unveiled the 50th Anniversary Monolith and released the Phek District 50th Anniversary Souvenir.

Welcoming attendees, MLA and Convenor Programme Committee, Kuzholuzo Nienu, expressed gratitude to pioneers and former Chief Ministers who contributed to the district’s development. Nienu credited the present Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for infrastructure advancements.
Minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs, K.G. Kenye, acknowledged the contributions of parents, pioneers, and civil societies in reaching this milestone. He expressed gratitude to officials serving from sub-division to district formation.
The event featured speeches by notable figures, including President of Pochury Hoho, Chonpa Jurry, President of Chakhesang Public Organisation, Vezuhu Keyho, MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero, MLA & Advisor to New & Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, and MLA & Advisor to CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo.
Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kuko Mero, NCS, chaired the anniversary program and delivered the closing remarks. The program included prayers by Rev. Dr. Chekrovei Cho-o and special songs by Jubilee Choir (Phek Town Baptist Church), Nievolu Soho, and a folk song by the Pochury Hoho.
In the Cultural Exhibition, the Lighting of the Anniversary Bonfire, Anniversary Fusion, and a Thanksgiving prayer by Rev. Rumatho Nyusou of Pochury Baptist Church Council marked the celebratory day.
