50 yrs of NBSE: Prize distribution for winners of State Level Art Competition 2024 held

Kohima: Comm’r & Secy DoSE calls for shift towards encouraging self-expression and building confidence in children

The Prize Distribution Ceremony of the State Level Art Competition 2024 conducted in commemoration of the 50 years of the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) was held on Thursday at the Board’s Conference Hall in Kohima.

The winners of the State Level Art Competition 2024 were:

1st Limehile of Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Kohima (Rs 20,000 with certificate)

2nd – Mesani Kuotsu of Eden Academy, Mokokchung (Rs 15,000 with certificate)

3rd – Nütho Tunyi of Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek (Rs 10,000 with certificate)

Commissioner and Secretary of School Education and Special Guest of the event, Kevileno Angami, congratulated the participants of the competition and emphasized that all participants are winners, representing their districts and schools as ambassadors. She also thanked the schools and teachers for their support.

Angami emphasized that art is an expression of ideas, imagination, and beauty, promoting innovation and critical thinking. Encouraging them to nurture their skills, she highlighted the importance of hard work and practice. She mentioned that the state-level platform provides opportunities to showcase talents, and with perseverance, they can excel.

She addressed parental hesitations in supporting children’s passions, urging a shift towards encouraging self-expression and building confidence. “As we mark the 50th year of NBSE, let us empower our children to build confidence in this field,” the Commissioner and Secretary stated.

Further, Angami expressed gratitude to those who shaped NBSE from its humble origins to a nationally recognized board, acknowledging all involved in elevating Nagaland’s education system. She said the board has produced thousands of students who passed out from this spot, who have grown to be leaders, leaders, change makers and statesmen in the state and outside the state.

She informed that the Board is making all efforts to change its pattern of evaluation adding that so many studies and reforms are taking place at this point in time. The Commissioner and Secretary highlighted that NBSE is one that assesses the understanding of the students but added that there is lots of room for improvement.

Chairperson, NBSE, Asano Sekhose gave a brief report on the Competition, highlighting that the Board conducted District Level Art (Painting) Competition for Classes IX to XII at the designated schools of all districts from 15th May to 25th May 2024 for which three participants from each school were invited for the competition.

The themes for the District Level Art Competition were: 1. Illustrate Education Through Art; 2. Conservation of Environment; 3. My culture, My Identity.

Sekhose added that 621 students from 219 institutions from 16 districts participated in District Level Art (Painting) competition all of them will be given Certificate of Participation.

The theme/ the sub-themes for the State Level Art (Painting) Competition were: The Natural Beauty of Nagaland: Flora and Fauna, People and Culture Hills, Valleys and Rivers, etc.

The Chairperson shared that the competition was a platform for the students to express themselves through art, emphasizing that competitions are not just about winning or losing. She urged students to focus on refining their abilities and participation, highlighting how art aids in critical and analytical development, hopeful that these activities will benefit them.

The program was chaired by Secretary, NBSE, Rangumbuing Nsarangbe while Chief Co-ordinator (IT) Kekhrielhoutuo Nakhro blessed the program with prayer.
