As many as 57 nominations were filed from Eastern Nagaland on the last day of the nomination filing for the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies election.
Defying the directive of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) not to participate or contest in the ULB polls, the intending candidates majorly from NDPP, BJP and NCP filed their nominations today.
As the news started circulating of candidates filing their nominations in Eastern area the respective tribal bodies, ENPO and the general public were clearly dismayed over the failure to adhere to the February 23 Chenmoho resolution.
It Is reported that 21 candidates from Mon district, 15 from Shamator district, 8 from Pungro sub division under Kiphire district and 13 from Longleng district had filed their nominations whereas, Tuensang and Noklak districts reported nil nominations.
Shamator and Longleng had 17 and 13 nominations filed respectively however, two candidates from Shamator and three from Longleng submitted their withdrawal letter to the Returning officer till the filing of this report.

Following this development the Konyak Union (KU) have summoned all 21 candidates on 12 June in the KU Office at Mon.
The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) has also called for a meeting tomorrow however, it is not clear whether the candidates will also be part of the meeting.
It remains to be seen now whether the candidates from Eastern Nagaland will withdraw their candidatures or will go ahead with the polls.
