Artang and Alempang secured spots in the quarterfinals, while Yimyu and Marepkong were ousted from the tournament.
Sangtemla, Artang, and Alempang emerged victorious today at the Day four of the 5th Mokokchung Inter-ward Football Tournament 2024, held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
Sangtemla, after suffering an initial loss to Sungkomen from Pool D, clinched their first win today against Salangtem with a 6-0 scoreline. R.Achi (Jersey no.9) opened the scoring for Sangtemla in the 3rd minute, followed by Nungshijujang (Jersey No.8) in the 24th minute, and another goal by R. Achi (Jersey no. 9) in the 28th minute of the first half.

Sangtemla continued their dominance in the second half, with Meyasenba (Jersey No.10) scoring in the 31st minute, and Tinurepba (Jersey no.11) and Meyasenba (Jersey no.10) adding goals in the 47th and 49th minutes respectively, sealing Salangtem’s fate with their first loss of the tournament.
Yimyu (Blue) against Artang (White/Black)
In the second match of the day, Artang defeated Yimyu 3-0 in a closely contested game. Despite both teams displaying great dominance and possession, Artang, topping Pool A, secured their third consecutive victory. Limatongzuk (Jersey no.12) scored twice in the 17th and stoppage time (60+1 minute), while Alemjungba (Jersey no. 21) added another goal in the 20th minute for Artang’s victory.
In the third match, Alempang claimed their first victory of the tournament against Marepkong with a 2-1 scoreline. Marepkong, already facing elimination with two losses, fought valiantly but couldn’t overcome Alempang’s early lead, with goals from Nungsangwati (Jersey no.9) in the 11th minute and Marenchemba (Jersey no.8) in the 24th minute of the first half. Although Marepkong managed to pull one back through Imlisanen (Jersey No. 17) in the 31st minute, they failed to dominate the game and were knocked out of the tournament.
The fifth day of the 5th MIFT will feature matches between Majakong and Arkong at 12:00 PM, followed by Kumlong versus Mongsenbai, and Sungkomen versus Salangtem.
The first quarterfinal will take place on 18th March at 1:00 PM.
