Six people from Nagaland are among ten individuals arrested by the Gujarat Police on 11th October 2023 for running a fake call centre in Juganadh in Gujarat. According to a ToI report, the fake call centre was being run in a rented premise to scam American citizens. It also said that the masterminds of the operation were from Ahmedabad and were absconding.

ToI said that police suspect the fake call centre to be part of a bigger set-up in a metropolitan city and quoted SP, Junagadh, Harshad Mehta as saying, “We have seized gadgets and sent these for forensic investigation. We are interrogating the 10 people we have arrested and expect to get more leads.”

According to the modus operandi, calls placed by American customers to these gateways would get diverted through the technique and the call centre staff, posing as customer care executives, would talk to them. They would then trick the people into revealing their banking details by luring them with offers, ToI reported.

The six individuals from Nagaland were identified as Khehoto Khutavi (31), Rokomeno Kin (26), Elizabeth Yaanthan (43), Alotoli Asumi (27), Semaholi Asumi (30), and Rosy Asumi (29). The other arrested persons in the fake call centre were said to be from Manipur and Delhi.
