65-year-old booked under POCSO Act for repeated molestation of minor girl

A 65-year-old man has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions following allegations of repeated molestation of a minor girl aged 7 years and 11 months. Police confirmed that the accused was arrested on August 31 and has since been forwarded to judicial custody.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the Women Police Station, Mokokchung, on

31/08/2025 (recorded as WPS C/No-0004/25), the accused has been identified as Rongpangkangzuk of

Kangtsung Village. The case has been taken up for thorough investigation under Sections 4 and 8 of the POCSO Act, as endorsed by the Officer-in-Charge in handwritten entries on the complaint sheet dated 31/08/2025.

The FIR filed by the victim’s mother stated that on the evening of August 30, between 8:00–9:00

p.m., the accused allegedly called the girl and her younger brother from their compound to his residence, promising to give them money. On reaching his house, he reportedly asked the younger brother to remain outside while taking the girl inside, where he allegedly molested her.

The FIR records that the accused warned the child not to disclose the incident to anyone, claiming that it would cause quarrels within the family. However, the girl later confided in her mother, unable to bear the pain. Upon further questioning, the child revealed that similar assaults had occurred on several previous occasions.

The written complaint also highlights the psychological impact on the victim, noting that she has been suffering from trauma and distress as a result of the repeated assaults. The mother appealed for strict legal action against the accused.

The police confirmed that the accused has been remanded to judicial custody while further emphasized that while the case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
