69th AKM General Conference concludes

Mokokchung: On the final day, the AKM resolved to conduct conclaves, in consonance with the theme of the conference ‘Education in Praxis’

The 69th AKM General Conference which had commenced on 18 January in Akhoya village came to a conclusion on 20 January with the induction of new office bearers for the year 2023–2026 and the adoption of a 7-point resolution.

T Molung Aier, former president of AKM, who was present as the valedictory guest urged the gathering for a successful conduct of clean elections and encouraged for a meaningful youth political participation in the upcoming elections by electing the befitting leader.

He also stressed on the theme ‘Education in Praxis’ to be one’s motto for the next AKM Conference and reiterated the importance of having vision and self-reliance on one’s education and vocational skills.

The nominating committee declared the new members of AKM for the year 2023–2026. The members are as:

  1. President – Lanutoshi Aier, Lirmen, Japukong Kaketshir Mungdang
  2. Vice President – Onenpong, Kinunger, Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang
  3. General Secretary – Sademmongba, Akhoya, Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang
  4. Assistant General Secretary – Pangjungkaba, Chungtiayimsen, Tsürangkong Kaketshir Mungdang
  5. Education Secretary – Lanulemba Longchar, Süngratsü, Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang.
  6. Finance Secretary – Ayimakum Aier, Longjang, Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang.
  7. Cultural Secretary – Imnayachet Molier, Mongchen, Jangpetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang
  8. Sports Secretary – Temlangsangba, Longkhum, Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang
  9. Information Secretary – Bendangnangba, Chungtiayimsen, Tsürangkong Kaketshir Mungdang

The vote of thanks in the final programme were delivered by Imkongsunep, convenor of the AKM Planning Committee, and Aochuba, IFS, convenor of the Local Planning Committee, respectively.

Aochuba, IFS, appreciated the AKM officials and the AKM Planning Committee for their coordination with the Local Planning Committee and for successfully conducting the conference.

He informed that the Local Planning Committee had been formed in June 2020 with 23 sub committees.

He stated that the AKM conference in Akhoya village was held through a successful donation drive by the Village Council and student bodies of the village who had voluntarily worked together, and he acknowledged their efforts.

Aochuba also acknowledged the Akhoya women for their influential efforts and contributions and appreciated all the other committees and participants who had worked for the success of the event.

The Resolution Committee presented the 7-point resolutions adopted on the basement of the 69th AKM General Conference 2023. It was informed that the 70th AKM General Conference will be held in Chungtia village, Mokokchung in 2026.

Among the 7-point resolutions passed by the AKM, two major resolutions adopted stood out: firstly, the AKM resolved to set up a UPSC Aspirant Trust Fund for which the Akhoya Students’ Union donated a sum of Rs 5 lakh; secondly, the AKM further resolved to conduct conclaves, in consonance with the theme of the conference ‘Education in Praxis’. The conclaves will be held focusing on entrepreneurship, career guidance, research development & innovation, financing and a job mela. An app will also be developed which will guide the students in the mentioned field, it was announced.

The programme was chaired by the AKM officials. The closing ceremony started with scripture reading and invocation by Rev Temshi, pastor of Changtongya Town Baptist Church.

A dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Lima Imsong, Touring Missionary, Unger.

Speeches from the outgoing and incoming presidents were also delivered by the respective persons.

The Conference Choir presented a farewell song.

A farewell song was presented by the Conference Choir and a special number was presented by Watikumla A Jamir. The benediction was pronounced by Moameren, pastor of Longchara Baptist Church.
