St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima has kicked off its 6th edition of Vision Trinity Women’s Basketball Tournament on 6th October 2024. The two-day tournament was graced by special guest, Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso MLA.
Addressing the students, Dr. Tsielhoutuo emphasised that while many government programs and leaders advocate for women’s empowerment and equal opportunities, it is evident that women are excelling in various fields. He pointed out that women are outshining men, particularly in sports and academics. Rhutso noted that in matriculation, higher secondary, and graduation exams, women frequently emerge as the top performers. He humorously suggested that men may soon need to request reservations for a chance to be among the top achievers.
He remarked that in a society dominated by men, government initiatives aimed at uplifting women have been necessary. However, he firmly believes that women possess greater strength than men. While men may excel in physical strength, women demonstrate superior emotional and mental resilience. He pointed out that in the past, physical strength was prioritised for leadership roles, but today, internal traits are far more significant than mere physical appearance.
‘It is the knowledge and abilities within a person that truly matter,’ he stated. He emphasised that regardless of family background or community, individuals must harness the resources available to them and integrate new programs into their lives to foster their progress in society. He noted that each team comprises members from different communities and various tribes, serving as a testament to unity.
He expressed his hope that this tournament would foster greater unity and coordination within our society, particularly under the current Nagaland government. Citing the example of the first female minister, he emphasised that women are rising in society and can excel beyond men. For this tournament, he conveyed a simple yet powerful message, “Every point scored represents a step toward unity, while every three-pointer symbolises a stride toward equality.”
Anit, Vice Principal, opened the event with an invocation, while Nunese Sale, President of Vision Trinity, delivered the welcome address. The Destitute Home in Kohima added warmth to the program with a special performance.
