253 participants, including those from Bangalore, Assam, and various districts of Nagaland, participated in the 6th Hornbill Angling Festival 2024 held at Mangsungtchu, Ashaa Village Doyang Reservoir, Wokha, Nagaland. Bemo Jami from Nagaland was declared winner of the event organized by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN), and hosted by District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN)
Dr Chumben Murry, Ex-Minister of Nagaland and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Sr. Vice President & Coordinator of NDPP Nagaland, graced the Prize Distribution Ceremony held on 7 December 2024 as the Special Guest. In his address, Dr Murry said that anglers are generally peaceful and patient people and encouraged the angler community to promote peace, love, and support for overall progress. He urged the community to preserve and love the ecosystem rather than exploiting it and applauded the state government and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for their milestone achievements in reaching international recognition.
Lamenting the fragmented society of Nagaland, Dr Murry called for a unified voice for the long-awaited Naga political solution, believing it would resolve issues and bring unity.
In a brief speech, Fishery and Aquatic Resources Joint Director Neitho-o Koutsu congratulated the participants, AAN, and DAWN for the successful 6th Edition of the Nagaland Hornbill Angling Festival. He informed that the department is initiating studies on fish habitats and aquatic life by collaborating with various institutions and research centres. He credited DAWN for raising awareness about stopping dynamic fishing in the Doyang district.
Derek D’Souza, Vice President of AIGFA, participated as a technical support expert and acknowledged the participants for broadening the platform. He remarked that angling is unique as it does not study the opponent’s weaknesses, emphasizing hope, dedication, and patience in the sport. He encouraged anglers to build relationships and widen friendships through angling.
The program was chaired by K.N. Mhonthung Lotha, President of DAWN.
